College football is definitely exciting all year long, but the real highlight for any fan is for them to pick up some College Bowl Game tickets to see their favorite team play in one of the major bowl games at the end of the year.
The biggest bowl games of the year are the BCS Bowl games, and this year will be no different. The BCS games kick off on January 1, 2007 for the Fiesta Bowl at Cardinals Stadium in Glendale, AZ and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Last year Charlie Weis coached the Fighting Irish to a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Ohio State, one of this year’s early favorites. The Irish lost the game, but the excellent coaching by Weis has brought Notre Dame back to national prominence once again.
The Rose Bowl was the site of last year’s BCS Title game. Before the game, many thought that the Rose Bowl was going to be one last showcase for Matt Lienart and Reggie Bush of USC, but Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns shocked everyone with the upset win over the undefeated number one team.
The bowl series continues the next day, January 2 when Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida hosts this year’s edition of the Orange Bowl. In 2006 Penn State defeated Florida State in a thrilling three point game. Adding the Orange Bowl to the BCS Bowl Series made it so the game hosted the champion of the ACC or the Big East, unless they were in the National Championship game. The addition of the BCS Title game has done away with the need to sometimes have the ACC Champion play elsewhere, so starting this season the Orange Bowl will be the exclusive game for the ACC Champion from now on.
On January 3 the Louisiana Superdome and the city of New Orleans will host the Sugar Bowl, and although the game had to be played at the Georgia Dome last year due to the damage the stadium sustained during Hurricane Katrina, the Sugar Bowl will return to the Big Easy.
This year has the addition of a BCS National Championship game that will pit the two best teams in the nation against one another for the honor of being declared the National Champions for this season. The game will be played January 8 on the site of the Fiesta Bowl at Cardinals Stadium. This will be the first year that there will be a separate National Championship Game and the site of this game will rotate every year among the four sites of the BCS bowl games of Cardinals Stadium, the Superdome, Dolphins Stadium and Pasadena.
Last year saw the Texas Longhorns claim the national title when they defeated the USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl, but after major players from each team left for the NFL will those schools be able to get back to that elusive title game or will they be playing in one of the many other games during Bowl Season? Teams like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Florida and LSU will be looking to make sure it is their name that takes over the talk of the nation as the regular season winds down, but you have to have your College Bowl Game tickets if you want to be there as the teams try to secure some much needed victories.
