It maybe the last major of the season, and sometimes it gets overshadowed by the Masters, U.S. Open and British Open, but don’t forget about your PGA Championship tickets. Yes, the PGA Tour’s season is winding down by the time golf’s fourth major comes around each September. Think about it: Football is just warming up, and baseball hasn’t quite reached the postseason. Why not pass the time with some PGA Championship tickets?

This year’s tournament will be making its second appearance Illinois’ fabled Medinah Country Club on Aug. 17-20. The site of three previous U.S. Opens and one other PGA Championship, Medinah is widely respected as one of the nation’s top facilities and will be a challenge to even the best the PGA Tour has to offer. But the top players are not always the ones taking home the title.

The PGA Championship has a habit of producing surprise winners. In 2003, unknown Shaun Micheel bested the field to win his first major title. Beginning with David Toms victory in 2001, which ended Tiger Woods’ string of two consecutive titles, the PGA Championship featured three straight first-time major winners. In 2002, Rich Beem, known more for his audacious attitude than his golf game, held off a late charge by Woods to take home his first major. Unknown Shaun Micheel followed in Beem’s footsteps the next season by stunning the crowd at Hazeltine National Club to win the 2003 title.

Lately, though, golf’s big names have stepped to the forefront. Last year, Phil Mickelson cemented his name as all-time great by taking home the trophy. After winning his first major at the 2004 Masters, Mickelson had contended in nearly every other major, but it wasn’t until his stellar final round at Baltusrol Golf Club that he would prove that he was no one-hit wonder.

In 2004, Vijay Singh won his second PGA Championship title, besting the field at the lengthy Whistling Straits. A native Fiji, Singh also won the 1998 PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club.

As you can see, there’s really no reason to pass on PGA Championship tickets this year. The Tour’s fourth major is always one of the most hotly-contested tournaments of the season. With the storied tradition of Medinah Country Club, the 2006 PGA Championship promises to be no different. Will it be another big name like Woods, Singh or Mickelson that captures the crown this year? Or will another unknown sneak survive the brutal conditions at Medinah to walk away with their first major championship? Find out by picking up your PGA Championship tickets today.
