If you have ever tried to get your hands on UConn Huskies Basketball tickets in the past few years, then you already know — finding them is never easy because of the popularity of this program that has been coached by Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun since 1986. The University of Connecticut is based in Storrs, Conn., but the UConn Huskies play their home games at the Hartford Civic Center, which affords a large venue for the areas die hard basketball fans.
The UConn Huskies were a relatively obscure team on national college basketball scene until Jim Calhoun turned this program into one that is consistently ranked among the top 10 in the nation every year now. In the Big East Conference, names like John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas ruled the conference and were they teams most likely to be seen deep into the NCAA Tournament come March of every season, but with an eye for talent and a genius coaching mind, Calhoun and the Huskies players upset the balance of the Big East in their favor. With big game players like Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning being replaced by Huskies Richard “Rip” Hamilton and Emeka Okafor, Calhoun coached his team to one of the biggest Final Four upsets, when Hamilton led his underdog Huskies team against the Duke Blue Devils in 1999. The UConn Huskies defeated Duke by a score of 77-74 and won their first ever NCAA National Championship Title.
Five years later, with future NBA Rookie of the Year, Emeka Okafor at the center position for the Huskies, Jim Calhoun once again captured the NCAA National title, but his successes as a coach did not end there. In 2005 he won his 700th game as head coach and then later that year was inducted into the Dr. James Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame. Being the only basketball head coach to have won over 250 basketball games at two different Division-I schools was no small feat either.
One thing for certain, is that Jim Calhoun has instilled a tradition of winning for the UConn Huskies Men’s Basketball team, and as long as he is the head coach for the program, talent and competitive spirit will continue to survive and flourish for many years into the future of basketball. If you want to see the best in Big East Basketball then you have got to catch a game in Connecticut by getting you hands on some UConn Huskies Basketball tickets as soon as you can, before they are all gone.
