The Terrapins and head coach Gary Williams have had a lot of success in the ACC in the past decade. Williams, who graduated from the University of Maryland, took over coaching duties in 1989. With increased success every year in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Williams eventually coached his 2002 team straight to the NCAA National Championship and proved that the Maryland Terrapins were a force to be reckoned with in the ACC and the rest of the NCAA.
