This is no small feat, as the Big East Conference has had some big names on the floor that eventually moved onto the NBA to become superstars of basketball. Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Emeka Okafor, and Carmelo Anthony are only a few of the well know, headline making names that have emerged out of the Big East.
Having come to Pittsburgh in 2003, coach Jamie Dixon has steered this team in a positive direction, starting with his team going 51-14 in the first two years that he was there as head coach. 2004 was one a particularly good year, as the Panthers, led by star center Chevy Troutman challenged the Connecticut Huskies and future NBA Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor in the Big East Title game, but came up just short of a win.
