bank of america 500 history

Bank of America 500 tickets are special for a myriad of reasons.  Not the least of which is the fact that its spot as the sixth to last race in the Chase for the Cup means many drivers’ and teams’ dreams are shattered with anything but a top performance.  On October 14th 2006 Concord North Carolina will play host to this drama when the best NASCAR has to offer start their engines for a pivotal race.  A field of the top stock car drivers and crews will be pitted against the behemoth one and a half-mile quad-oval of Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

There has however been some comedic commentary that perhaps the North Carolina track would be more fittingly dubbed Jimmie Johnson Speedway.  Johnson has a standing reservation at the winner’s circle at Lowe’s as he has taken the checkered flag at five of the last six events run at the track.  This impressive streak includes a Coca – Cola 600 victory that was won from the pole.  Do not be surprised if those in line for Bank of America 500 tickets are dripping with Jimmie Johnson apparel and merchandise.  Since he came into NASCAR he has been a beloved favorite of the North Carolina faithful.

To get a sense of the nostalgia that the history of this race and track have to offer, one needs to travel back over thirty years to a time when four of the best in the business made it their business to battle at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  David Pearson won the pole at the track three years in a row winning both the National 500 and the World 600 in 1974.  A year earlier the early legend Cale Yarborough held off Pearson to win the 73’ National 500 with Buddy Baker taking a wire to wire victory in the World 600 the same year.  1972 was the year of Bobbie Allison on Lowe’s Motor Speedway and his dominance led to a pole in the World 600 and a win later that year in the National 500.

Bank of America 500 tickets give promise of new heroic on track feats for future generations to reflect on.  In Concord North Carolina on October 14th 2006 one of the grandest race on one of the most hallowed tracks will be taking place for fans young and old to take part in.  Make your way to Lowe’s Motor Speedway and become a part of the action, the excitement, and pageantry of NASCAR racing.
