dickies 500 history
Dickies 500 tickets are now one the most widely anticipated sporting opportunities in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Texas Motor Speedway, the home of the NASCAR event is one of the relative fledgling tracks in the stock car racing circuit today. The track was opened in 1995 amidst an outcry from local fans, business owners and potential investors that coincided with the boom in NASCAR popularity at the time. The one and a half-mile quad-oval will again be the setting for racing’s high drama on November 5th when Nextel Cup Racing’s elite trade paint and fumes in the third to last race of the 2006 season.
The new age of the stadium and regionally dense fan population brought out the Dickies 500 and other races at TMS as a new toast to the NASCAR party. This became evident to the organizational brass the day of the first Cup when Jeff Burton won the Interstate Batteries 500 in front of a sellout crowd in 1997. The next couple of years saw more interest grow in the sport in the North Texas Metro Area and in 2005 Texas Motor Speedway was given the honor of a second annual cup race during the season. This is not just any race either. Dickies 500 tickets bought fans a seat at a late season, meaningful and fiercely competitive race.
To accentuate the competitive element surrounding this event it is important to note a rare lack of consistent top running in this race year in and year out. A rarity in racing, the Texas Motor Speedway has not had a two-time champion in Cup Racing to date. Although Ryan Newman has take the last two poles on the track and Bill Elliot set a blister course record of 194.224mph no one can say that they have established dominance on this track yet.
Perhaps Dickies 500 tickets will change all of that this year. Many young gun drivers are looking to leave their marks on the same asphalt that wily veterans look to regain prominence. Whatever the outcome is on November 5th it is certain that Texas Motor Speedway will have a part in the unfolding play of the Chase of the Nextel Cup. Those cast in staring roles along side will be vying for position. With only three races remaining, don’t get the tickets for the seats because the smart fans will be standing to watch the action rage and unfold in one of the newest NASCAR must see events.
