The Kansas City Chiefs were a founding member of the American Football League in 1960, starting life as the Dallas Texans. After a span of 14 years in which the Chiefs reached the playoffs only once (1986), head coach Marty Schottenheimer stamped the Chiefs tickets back to the NFL playoffs. Beginning in 1990, Schottenheimer led his team to a string of six postseason appearances and a division title in 1993, behind talent like Marcus Allen and Joe Montana.
Dick Vermeil took over in 2001, and immediately set out to build a team around quarterback Trent Green and running back Priest Holmes. The result was an AFC West Division Championship in 2003 and 2004 and the highest scoring offense in Kansas City Chiefs history.
