Calgary Flames tickets gave hockey fans a much needed shot of hope last season as the Flames rewarded ticket holders with a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Flames ticket holders watched the home team break out of a long slump with a 94 point season under the leadership of Jarome Iginla and goaltender Miika Kiprusoff. A return trip in 2005-2006 is a realistic and tantalizing prospect for hockey fans with Calgary Flames tickets.
The Calgary Flames were born in Atlanta in the early 70’s, deriving their team name from the flames that consumed Atlanta during the Civil War. Dressing out in uniforms of red, yellow, and black, the Flames logo consists of a fiery letter C set against a black background. After several years in Atlanta the Flames moved to Calgary for the 1980-1981 season, keeping their name and logo after the move. The Flames play their home games in the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Calgary Flames fans were rewarded with the team’s first ever playoff series win in the 1981-82 campaign with a 3-0 first round triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks. Moving on into the second round the Flames quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers but had their backs against the wall when the Flyers won the next pair to force a seventh game. A 4-1 win sent the Flames to the semi-finals where they would fall to the Minnesota North Stars in six games.
After years of patient waiting Calgary Flames ticket holders were rewarded with a Stanley Cup Championship in 1989. Finishing the regular season with a 54-17-9 record, the Flames were pushed to the limit in the playoffs by the Vancouver Canucks, finally claiming a seventh game overtime win on a Joel Otto goal. The division finals proved to be an easier task as the Flames swept the Los Angeles Kings in 4 games to earn a matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks for the Conference Championship. The Blackhawks fell in a five game series and the Calgary Flames were on their way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
With the series tied at 1-1 the Flames lost game 3 in overtime. Forced to battle back once again, they claimed a 4-2 win in game 4 and took a lead in the series with a 3-2 victory in game 5. With the score knotted at 1-1, Lanny McDonald managed a goal in the second period to put the Flames in the lead. Padding their lead in the 3rd, the Flames claimed their first Stanley Cup with a 4-2 victory.
Calgary Flames ticket buyers may have suffered through a long dry spell but the Stanley Cup is within reach for the 2005-2006 Flames squad. The Pengrowth Saddledome will be rocking as Canadian hockey fans cheer on a Flames team that came within a hair of delivering the Cup in their last campaign, and in the new season no true hockey fans wants to be caught without Calgary Flames tickets.
