Colorado Avalanche tickets and a trip to the Pepsi Center should be at the top of every NHL fan’s wish list. The Avalanche have spirited Pierre Turgeon away from the Stars to play alongside Joe Sakic and Milan Hejduk. With Peter Forsberg out of the picture, Sakic, Rob Blake, and Turgeon will be expected to carry the Avalanche to the NHL playoffs and give Avalanche tickets holders their third Stanley Cup.
The Colorado Avalanche make their home in Denver. Decked out in Burgundy, Blue, and White, the Avalanche entertain their fans in the Pepsi Center, located in the LoDo entertainment district on the edge of downtown Denver.
Since entering the league, the Colorado Avalance have claimed two Stanley Cups, the first in 1996, and again in 2001. Their record includes nine trips to the playoffs, eight division championships, and the Avalanche have advanced to the conference finals six times.
Entering the postseason in 1996 it seemed unlikely the Avalanche could make much of a splash in the NHL playoffs. Struggling early on in the opening series against the Vancouver Canucks, the Avalanche found themselves at 2-2 after four games and struggling late in the fifth game. A Joe Sakic goal with five minutes left to play tied the game however and sparked Colorado to an overtime win. The momentum carried over to game six and propelled the team to a second round contest with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Struggling in the early part of the series, Sakic again supplied the magic, scoring in the third overtime of game four to even the series at 2-2. The dramatic win seemed to ignite the Avalanche as they went on to win the next pair of games and continued the hot streak with a 2-0 lead early in the next series against the Detroit Red Wings. After losing game three, the Avalanche split the next two games before finally eliminating Detroit in game 6 with Sakic’s 17th goal of the playoffs. Facing the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Avalanche leaped ahead by winning the first two games at homes and capturing the first game at Miami for a 3-0 series lead. Game four gave hockey fans one of the most memorable games in NHL history as the Avalanche and Panthers battled neck and neck into a third overtime period before the Avalanche’s Uwe Krupp beat Panther’s goalie John Vanbriesbouk with a slap shot to seal the win and the Avalanches’ first Stanley Cup. Along the way Joe Sakic led the team with 18 goals to earn the Conn Smythe Award for MVP of the playoffs.
Colorado Avalanche tickets will give NHL fans in the Pepsi Center a whole new look in 2005-206. The addition of Patrice Bricebois and Pierre Turgeon, combined with longtime Avalanche stalwart Joe Sakic, gives Colorado hockey fans an exciting mix of the old and the new. If the chemistry is there, Avalanche tickets may be the NHL ticket to see a Stanley Cup contender in the new season.
