columbus blue jackets history

Columbus Blue Jackets tickets provide NHL fans with a live look at the new kids on the block. But these new kids are no pushover. The development of high flying Rick Nash means the Blue Jackets will be a team to contend with in the Central Division. Columbus hockey fans filled the Nationwide Arena in 2003-2004 to watch Nash slap home an NHL leading 41 goals. Blue Jacket fans are expecting bigger and better things in 2005-2006. It’s time for the expansion team tag to be lifted from this franchise. It’s time to for Columbus Blue Jackets tickets to become one of the most highly sought after NHL tickets around.

With their inaugural season in 2000, the Blue Jackets chose their name to pay homage to the contributions that Ohio has made to American history and the patriotism of its citizens during the Civil War. Ohio contributed more of its army to the Union army than any other state. Most of the uniforms worn by these soldiers were made in Columbus. The Blue Jackets logo speaks loudly to show the patriotism of this team. There colors are red white and blue, and their logo contains 13 stars to represent the orginal 13 colonies. The star on top of the hockey stick in the logo is symbolic of Columbus being the state capital of Ohio.

Starting off the 2003 season, the Blue Jackets used the number one draft pick to acquire Rick Nash. Nash made an immediate impact on the team and continues to be a major factor in the Blue Jackets’ progress. In the 2003-04 season, Nash was tied for the league lead in goals with 41, the first NHL player since the great Wayne Gretzky to record more than 40 goals in the National Hockey League as a teenager. His performance in his first season earned Nash a spot on the NHL All-Rookie team and a piece of the Maurice Richard Trophy.

Unfortunately tragedy plays a part in the Columbus Blue Jackets early history. During the 2002 season, a young 13-year-old girl named Brittanie Cecil was attending her first Blue Jacket game in Nationwide Arena. The Blue Jackets were skating against the Calgary Flames that evening. Brittanie was struck with a deflected puck during the game and passed away 2 days later becoming the first fan fatality in the 85-year history of the NHL. The Blue Jackets honored her memory for the rest of the season by wearing a heart shaped logo on their helmets with her “BNC” initials. Because of her death, the NHL would later install netting in both offensive zones above the glass to protect fans.

Columbus Blue Jackets tickets have given NHL hockey fans in Ohio the opportunity to see first hand the building of an NHL franchise. The 2005-206 NHL season may see the Blue Jackets contend for their first playoff berth and bring an NHL postseason game to Nationwide Arena. Rising stars Rick Nash and Nikolai Zherdev, coupled with new addition Adam Foote, give Nashville their strongest roster yet. As a result, Columbus Blue Jackets tickets are set to pay off big time in 2005-2006.
