Other beneficiaries include the San Diego International Sports Council, Tennis for Tots, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, San Diego Children’s Museum and United Cerebral Palsy.
Heading into its 23rd year, the Acura Classic Tennis Tournament is one of the premier events on the worldwide Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. It is classified on the WTA Tour as a Tier I tournament. This year’s tournament will include qualifying singles, main draw singles and main draw doubles. After defeating Japan’s Ai Sugiyama 6-0, 6-3, Mary Pierce was crowned champion of the tournament last year and will return this year to defend her title. Also returning are doubles champions Conchita Martinez and Virginia Ruano Pascual from Spain.
