Formerly known as the Fort Worth Bowl, the bowl game that is played at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas has a new sponsor and has been renamed as the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. This will be the fourth year that this bowl game will be played, and those that can get their hands on some Armed Forces Bowl tickets will be at the game to see a team from the Mountain West Conference face a team from Conference USA.
Last year Kansas won it’s first bowl game in the past ten years when they defeated Houston by a score of 42 to 13. The bowl appearance and the first winning season in the past ten years for Kansas was led by quarterback Jason Swanson, who started the year hurt. In the bowl game last year, Swanson had an impressive nineteen completions that resulted in 307 yards and MVP honors. Perhaps his most impressive pass of the game came late in the third quarter at a time when Kansas only had an eight-point lead over Houston. At that point, Swanson threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Mark Simmons and then the Jayhawks went on to score twenty-one unanswered points.
On the other side of the ball Houston had trouble with their offensive game. After leading Conference USA all regular season with 457 total yards per game, they were held by Kansas State to a dismal 244 yards for the game. Houston’s last bowl win was in the 1980 Garden State Bowl, but they did make an appearance at the Hawaii Bowl in 2003 that turned out to be a triple-overtime thriller against Hawaii. This year, Houston and the other teams from Conference USA will be trying to put up the numbers so that they can represent their conference in the Armed Forces Bowl and put Conference USA back on top.
As bowl season approaches, the games in the regular season mean more and more to those teams that are looking to make a bowl appearance this year. Teams that do not compete for a national championship title can still bring a lot of honor to their team and their school by securing a good record and taking home a bowl trophy. The Armed Forces Bowl is one of the newer bowls during bowl season, and after just four years the popularity of this game is rising. In Fort Worth, Texas, football is a way of life and no games are more important to fans of the area than bowl games, so getting Armed Forces Bowl tickets is becoming more and more difficult every year. Whether you live in Texas or just want to be there to see your favorite Mountain West or Conference USA team play in the Armed Forces Bowl, you can be sure to be a part of the game if you allow us to handle all your Armed Forces Bowl tickets or tickets to any of the other exciting games being played during bowl season.
