If you’re looking to slake your thirst for college football after the regular season has come and gone you won’t get any better than Insight Bowl tickets. Formerly the Copper Bowl, then the Insight.com Bowl, and now finally just the Insight Bowl, this game has always been a premiere showing for college football fun. That hasn’t changed and the 200 version looks to be just as good or even better than the 2005 Insight Bowl.

The 2005 Insight Bowl was a game for the ages. Rutgers and Arizona put together an offensive game that blew away all the records for the Insight Bowl. Between the two teams they amassed 1,210 yards of offense and scored 95 points, a show that kept the Insight Bowl crowd out of their seats and on their feet. With Arizona State finally pulling out to 45-40 win, fans with Insight Bowl tickets got more than their money’s worth in this game.

Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter put up great numbers, totaling 467 yards on a 23 of 35 night and tossing four touchdown passes. He led an offense that ran up 678 yards and seemed unstoppable by Rutgers. On the other side of the ball, Rutgers quarterback Ryan Hart threw three touchdown passes of his own while racking up 374 yards in the air with a single interception. The two teams battled it out down to the wire, with Hart connecting on a 29-yard scoring strike to pull Rutgers within five. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Arizona State though, and Rutgers never got a chance in the last few minutes of the game.

Rutgers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and looked prepared to upset the favored Arizona State. Hart tossed scoring passes to both Clark Harris and Brian Leonard, while Jeremy Ito kicked a 25 yard field goal to account for Rutgers’ first quarter points. Arizona Ste meanwhile, put together a 7 play, 70 yard drive ending with a Carpenter touchdown pass to Matt Miller of 43 yards.

In the second quarter Arizona Ste gained some ground, scoring on a field goal and another touchdown pass. Rutgers crossed the goal line again for their seven and the Insight Bowl hit halftime at 24-17 in favor of Arizona State. The Sun Devils tied the game early in the third period on a run by Rudy Burgess. It was back and forth from there as Rutgers hit a pair of field goals while Carpenter hit his 3rd TD of the game. In the fourth quarter the Sun Devils defense limited Rutgers to a field goal early on and that was enough to make the difference in the game as Carpenter led his team on two more scoring drives. Hart made it close with his final TD pass but the defense couldn’t stop the Sun Devils on their last clock consuming drive.
