Since 1997, MPC Computers Bowl tickets have been a top purchase on any football fan’s list. Played annually in Boise, Idaho, this game is one die hard enthusiasts are sure to watch.
Played annually at Bronco Stadium in Boise State University, the MPC Computers Bowl has been a NCAA-sanctioned Division I-A bowl game since it’s start in 1997. Each year, 30,000 fans take their seats to watch a matchup between teams from the Atlantic Coast and Western Athletic Conferences. While new sponsorship has renamed it, the original bowl game was known as the Humanitarian Bowl from 1997- January 2004. This year, the game will be broadcast on ESPN on New Year’s Eve.
The past few years have seen some exciting games at the MPC Computers Bowl. In 2004, Fresno State took on Virginia in a 37-34 win. After 23 completed passes and 235 thrown yards without an interception, Paul Pinegar helped even out the score for the Bulldogs, who were falling drastically behind in the second quarter. For all of his effort, Pinegar took home the MVP award for Fresno State that year. However, he wasn’t the only one shining that night. Cavaliers’ quarterback Marques Hagans threw for 162 yards on 18-of-30 passing with one touchdown. In addition, he ran for 85 yards and a touchdown and his team’s best play often circled around his drop-back pass that morphed into a long scramble. For all of his effort, Hagans took home Virginia’s MVP award of the game. 28,516 watched a memorable comeback for Fresno State that year.
December 28, 2005 saw yet another nail-biting game take place in Bronco Stadium, this time between Boston College and Boise State. While there were high hopes for Boise State, home field advantage didn’t seem to help the team’s progress much that day. In the first half alone, Boston College’s Matthew Ryan threw three touchdown passes. Then with 3:51 left in the game, Quinton Jones brought the game to 27-21. Jones broke two tackles inside his own 10, broke two more and then ran the field for 92 yards to score a touchdown. The play went down as the longest punt return in the bowl’s history. Afterwards, with only 37 seconds left on the clock, Ryan Glasper intercepted Boise State’s Jared Zabransky’s pass in the end zone. That year, quarterbacks Ryan and Zabransky were voted MVPs for each team by the media.
Come this December, MPC Computers Bowl tickets will once again be flying off box office shelves. With an intense matchup of talented teams and a crowd of excited fans, this game can keep even the most distracted fan riveted.
