Hot off a second place finish in ACC Standings, Boston College Eagles tickets are selling off shelves this season. Led by Coach Tom O’Brien, the team is still running off adrenaline from a thorough previous year. Going into the season, Boston is holding onto six straight bowl winning streak, the longest active streak in college football history.

Part of the Eagles’ staff since 1997, Coach O’Brien has maintained a level of skilled consistency throughout his time with the team. Though fans had their doubts as he battled through two 4-7 seasons in the beginning, the coach soon turned the team around, ending with an 8-4 record in 1999. Coming from Virginia where he held a spot on the coaching staff for 15 seasons, O’Brien has held a reputation of putting together a steadfast team. However, while the team has always been consistent, they seem to continue to fall short of excellence. In his time with Boston, the Eagles have yet to partake in a major bowl, have not won a conference title and also have not been able to win more than nine games in a season (although they also have not won less than seven). With this in mind, this year, the coach is ready to move beyond just solid.

While the team is excited to break through from consistent to extraordinary, it won’t be easy. The team has lost a lot of talent and leadership due to graduating seniors. In fact, this past spring marked the graduation of the winningest senior class in school history, including nine starters and three players taken in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft. This change leaves the Eagles with only eight seniors on the entire team. So, how will this effect Boston’s status this upcoming season? Although Coach O’Brien acknowledges that some of the missing players will make things difficult, he still remains confident. Veteran juniors are ready to step up and fill in empty slots that absent players have left behind. Key positions include quarterback, where junior Matt Ryan remains unsurpassed as a starter, running back, a position in which Andre Callender and L.V. Whitworth combined to gain more than 1,500 rushing yards a year ago. And while other positions have been left open, the team is confident that Coach O’Brien has done an excellent job in preparing returning players to fill in the gaps.

Coming into a brand new season, Boston College Eagles tickets are already disappearing. Full of talent and new starters, this year should show an entirely fresh look for the Eagles. Can they take their new starting line-up the extra distance that they’ve been striving for? Only time will tell.
